All Star Motors Staff are flat-out Liars!
They sell used cars at 10282 Two Notch Road Columbia SC 29229

December 19, 2008, I went into the Captioned location and met with a person who gave me a business card that said, "Terrence Gaither, Sales Manager." We discussed the purchase of a BMW car that was made in the year 2000. It was a black shinny car parked right at the gate entrance to the car lot. We agreed on the sales price of $10,000.00. We agreed on a down payment of $5,000.00. We tentatively agreed on a trade-in credit of $1,000.00 for my niece's car as the car was for her.

December 19, 2008. The sales manager called my niece and got all of her credit information verbally and documentation by fax. He also got all of the details about the car that was to be traded. They also agreed to close the deal on Friday, December 26, 2008 as agreed. Mr. Gaither, the Manager, repeated his pledge to her that, "If the banks do not take the deal we will finance the deal in house. So you can count on picking up the car on December 26, 2008."

December 22, 2008. Several calls occurred between Mr. Gaither, my niece, and me about how the financing was going. Mr. Gaither started quoting monthly payments amounts of $288.00 for thirty six months. He also stated that there would a device put on the car so that the lender would have to give you a code every month after each payment in order for the car to continue to operate. My niece and I decided that since we knew that the balance after down payment was only $4000.00, we would sign the deal and pay it off quickly so that we would not pay the outrageous amount of $288.00 for thirty-six months. I calculated that if we paid the down payment and the $288.00 for thirty-six months that would be about 85% interest on the balance due. When I realized that this would be 85% interest, I called Mr. Gaither and told him that he must be making a mistake in the amount being financed. I told him that $288.00 for thirty-six months would be equal to financing $10,000.00 at 23.183%. Mr. Gaither became angry and said, "I agreed to get you a loan and I can't be responsible for what the bank's numbers are." I said again, "Mr. Gaither, if the balance to be financed is less than $5,000.00 then the payments would be less than $200.00 per month for thirty-six months. Aren't you concerned that they might be making a mistake?" Mr. said, "I will get with my finance manager and call you back." He never did call me back.

December 22, 2008, I was in the area of Al Star Motors so I stopped in to see how the deal was going. I met with the "Finance Manager." She explained that, ". . . even though the balance to be financed is maximum $5,000.00 the bank will add $2,500.00 to that as a fee for financing your niece. Your niece has not been on her job long enough for the bank." I said, "Mr. Gaither agreed that if the banks would not give my niece financing you would give her "in house financing at 25%, let us see how much that would come to. She left the room and after a short while Mr. Gaither came into the same room and said, "We have to forget about the BMW. I know I said $10,000.00 but I cannot sell you that car for less than $13,000.00." I said, "So, you flat out lied to me and all of this haggling was about you trying to extract an additional three thousand dollars out of the deal?”  As I was saying how “sorry I was that he had to make a living lying like this . . ." Mr. Gaither interrupted to say, "I make an honest living here and you do not have to be sorry for me. I left Mr. Gaither and All Star Motors. I CALLED MY NIECE, WHO WAS EXPECTING A CAR, TO TELL HER THE DEAL WAS OFF AND WHAT BIG LIARS THE PEOPLE AT ALL STAR MOTORS ARE.

I post this on the Internet as an ugly personal experience that I want to warn others about so they can avoid the folk at All Star Motors. It is cruel to have a young person expecting adults to do business in good faith only to be disappointed like this. Everyone knows what "car fever" is for young people and so I apologized profusely to my niece. Yet, I still feel badly because I helped the folk at All Star Motors build up her hopes for a BMW and then to let them hurt her like this. Cjw

December 27, 2008: As an update, please be advised that I was able to acquire a 2000 model Lexus for my niece from Midland Honda without any of the shenanigans that I had to go through at All Star Motors. It was a clean sale without any misrepresentations or tensions. My salesperson was Mr. Lucas Felder. He is a gentleman and he exhibits integrity. I recommend Midland Honda to anyone. Cjw
